THE NEWBURY FIRE DEPARTMENT
PROTECTION CO. No. 2
The Newbury Protection Fire Company No. 2 was established, and incorporated January 27, 1942 by a group of volunteers who pooled together their own money in order to purchase the first piece of fire apparatus serving the residents of Oldtown. Protection Co. # 2 remains a privately owned non-profit corporation specializing in fire suppression and rescue. We are dedicated to protecting the residents of Oldtown and the Newbury residents on Plum Island. The Company also responds to mutual aid calls from any local Fire Department that requires assistance. To this day, the majority of the equipment, and all of the fire apparatus, ambulances, buildings, and property are still owned by the Corporation. Money to purchase and maintain the equipment and property comes substantially from donations from the townspeople, and from various fund raisers held throughout the year. The department is made up of both full time and call personnel. These dedicated individuals give up their time, effort, and sometimes money to ensure proper preparedness and training is always maintained. They dedicate themselves to the protection of your life and property. Many a hot meal is left on the table as the call for need is unselfishly answered.
